If you were one of the supergeeks like me, at 10am PST, you were keeping up with Apple’s summer mac conference. Yes, I was constantly keeping watch on multiple websites this morning to see what they would be announcing today. They touched quite a bit on the new iMacs, segueing into iLife and announcing some new things in dotMac as well.

The new iMacs look simply stunning. They are thinner, made of aluminum and glass, and they are definitely cooler. You can find some pictures over at Engadget. It’s very cool. They’re now shipping with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 1TB of hard drive space. That alone right there really rocks. They’ve also announced a new Mighty Mouse and Keyboard, both of which are also available in bluetooth wireless versions. Have I also mentioned that the iMac looks sweet? All starting at $1199.  They also announced that iLIfe 08 will be shipping with all new macs as of today.

So dotMac got an increase today with a boost to your online storage to 10GB. I’m so very glad I still have my dotMac account. Because it also has a new Web 2.0 Web Gallery, that mimics the new iPhoto. I think the biggest thing about iPhoto is the new ability to divide your photos up in to events, which is basically a better way to organize your albums. Very neat and very awesome. I’m really very anxious to try this out.

iMovie has been rewritten and now you can do everything even faster, and more efficiently! You can easily post your movies now to your web gallery (.mac) and you can even port your movies directly to youtube now! It will take care of it all, encoding and uploading. How sweet is this?

iWeb now supports domain names, and not just dotMac now. I think this is an about time thing. I mean really!

iWork has also been redone, but iWork is out of my scope, although I have to admit that it does look like the spreadsheet is better.

Other than that, they actually had a QandA session, which was cool, and someone did pose some interesting questions, and you gotta love Steve’s answers:

“Why are you not participating in Intel Inside program and not putting stickers on your Macs?”

Steve: “What can I say? We like our own stickers better. Don’t get me wrong, we love Intel, combined with our OS, we’ve really tuned them well together. Everyone knows we use Intel processors, we’d rather tell them about the product inside the box.”

Phil: “Too much stuff on PC box, stickers on laptop, trialware, You don’t have to peel stuff off.”

My answer? Um, because who cares? You know that’s what Steve really wanted to say.

“What about AMD chips?”

Steve: “We use Intel chips”

LOL kinda funny I thought...maybe it was just me. tongue

“Introduced multitouch on iPhone, what about for the Mac?”

Steve: “Makes sense for the iPhone, not sure it makes sense in the Mac. Classify that as a research project.”

So now, of course, people are thinking that someday maybe apple too will come out with a Big Ass Table.
